SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is not a 12-step group, like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). SMART Recovery uses techniques and group support designed to help participants gain a different sense of control over their addictive thoughts and behaviors so that they can experience the joy of recovery without the need to use addictive substances.
