SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is not a 12-step group, like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). SMART Recovery uses techniques and group support designed to help participants gain a different sense of control over their addictive thoughts and behaviors so that they can experience the joy of recovery without the need to use addictive substances.

Recovery Dharma Meeting List — Recovery Dharma

Dharma Recovery is based on Buddhist philosophy. In this approach to recovery, people are empowered to rise above their addiction: “All individuals have the power and potential to free themselves from the suffering that is caused by addiction.” Dharma Recovery challenges you to live in the moment, observing all of their sensations, fears, hopes, and concerns instead of running from them. In this way, you can identify factors that trigger addictive and destructive behavior and work to overcome them.

In Dharma Recovery, you do not deny or run from fears and anxiety—you observe and acknowledge them in order to find new ways to respond to them. The therapy may seem confusing and counter-intuitive at first, but it can be mastered with time and practice. We can provide the guidance and support you need to master this path to recovery.
